A Bakersfield police officer who swerved across traffic lanes in a patrol car while driving under the influence of prescription medication on his way to work pleaded no contest Friday to a "wet and reckless" charge.

The officer was arrested June 26, 2010 after several people called police to report a patrol car swerving across lanes of Truxtun Avenue and at one point hitting a curb, police reported. At least one person followed the officer to the back parking lot of the downtown police station.

He had trouble handling the vehicle even before he made it onto a public road. Police reported the bottom of the officer's open driver's side door bumped into a ground air-conditioning unit as he was backing out at his Rosedale area apartment building.
